Playing and Competition Rules

 

 

The rules for all events run by the League will be as detailed below

 

1.             Entry Fees will be per team entering and will be set by the League Committee

 

2.             Teams in the various sections of the League will consist of the following players: -

                            (a)            Mixed League

                                                  (i)          2x2 Divisions and Division 1 – 2 Men & 2 Women.  In certain conditions as agreed by the League Committee, this Division may revert to 4 Men & 4 Women

                                                (ii)          All other Divisions - 4 Men & 4 Women

                           (b)            Gents League – 4 Men  

                            (c)            Ladies League – 4 Women

                           (d)            Juvenile League – 2 Boys & 2 Girls.   All players must be under 17 years of age on the 1st January of the current playing season

 

3.             Entry forms

                            (a)            Each team must fill in a separate entry form consisting of all players in order of merit.   No Senior graded player may play in this League

                                                  (i)          Register players for that team in order of merit, including reserves   

Note: If clubs have more than one team in that particular section then the registration team list of the 2nd or other teams are considered the reserves

                                                (ii)          Order of merit may be amended or added to at any time during the season but such changes will be subject to approval of the League Committee

                                              (iii)          Additional players may be registered at the discretion of the League Committee

                           (b)            Entry fees must accompany the entry form

 

4.             A player may not play for more than one Club in that particular section of the League in any one season.

Note:  Mixed League, 2x2 Mixed League, Gents League and Ladies League are consider separate sections and players could play for more than one Club in this instance

 

5.             Each player must be registered in the Ballinderry Badminton League before they are eligible to play in matches.   A registered player from a higher division may not play in a lower division unless reregistered and this at the discretion of the League Committee

   

6.             League Games - shall consist of the following matches as shown below: -

                            (a)            Mixed League

All matches will play all Level Doubles first before any Mixed Doubles unless there is prior agreement between the Clubs

                                                  (i)          2x2 Divisions and Division 1 – 6 games - 1 Men’s Doubles, 1 Women’s Doubles & 4 Mixed Doubles.  1st Mixed Doubles will play the opposing teams 1st & 2nd Mixed parings.  In certain conditions as agreed by the League Committee, this Division may revert to 4 Men & 4 Women with rules as described below

                                                (ii)          All other Divisions – 8 games - 2 Men’s Doubles, 2 Women’s Doubles & 4 Mixed Doubles.  The Doubles pairs shall play in order of merit and 1st Gents Doubles must play 1st & 2nd Mixed

                           (b)            Gents League – 4 games – 4 Men’s Doubles.   Doubles consist of 1st Match (1st & 2nd Gent); 2nd Match (3rd & 4th Gent); 3rd Match (1st & 3rd Gent); 4th Match (2nd & 4th Gent)

                            (c)            Ladies League – 4 games – 4 Women’s Doubles.   Doubles consist of 1st Match (1st & 2nd Woman); 2nd Match (3rd & 4th Woman); 3rd Match (1st & 3rd Woman); 4th Match (2nd & 4th Woman)

                           (d)            Juvenile League – 6 games - 1 Boy’s Doubles, 1 Girl’s Doubles & 4 Mixed Doubles.  1st Mixed Doubles will play the opposing teams 1st & 2nd Mixed parings.       All matches will play all Level Doubles first before any Mixed Doubles unless there is prior agreement between the Clubs

Note: Each team to have responsible person in charge for the match

 

7.             All League matches are the best of 3 sets to the current scoring rules as laid down by UBBUI and a point is awarded for each match won and gives a total as shown below: -

                            (a)            Mixed League

                                                  (i)          Division 1 – 6 points.    In certain conditions as agreed by the League Committee, this may revert to 8 points

                                                (ii)          All other Divisions – 8 points

                           (b)            Gents League – 4 points

                            (c)            Ladies League – 4 points

                           (d)            Juvenile League – 6 points

 

8.             All Cup matches are the best of 3 sets to the current scoring rules as laid down by UBBUI and a point is awarded for each match won. 

                            (a)            Cup Final is a fixed date and cannot be changed.   Venue and date to be determined by the League Committee

                           (b)            Shuttles for the Cup Final to be supplied by the League and they will be

·               Feather (see Rule 13 for type) for Mixed Division 1; Gents & Ladies Divisions

·               Plastic (see Rule 13 for type) for all other Mixed Divisions and Juvenile Divisions

                            (c)            When a result is reached the Game is to terminate.  

                           (d)            The order of play in Cup matches are as follows: -

·               Mixed League - 2x2 Divisions and Division 1 - Women’s Double, Men’s Doubles, 1st Mixed, 2nd Mixed, 3rd Mixed, 4th Mixed

·               Mixed League - All Other Divisions – 1st Women’s Doubles, 1st Men’s Doubles, 2nd Women’s Doubles, 2nd Men’s Doubles, 1st Mixed, 2nd Mixed, 3rd Mixed, 4th Mixed

·               Men’s League – 1st Men’s Doubles, 2nd men’s Doubles, 3rd Men’s Doubles, 4th Men’s Doubles

·               Ladies League – 1st Ladies Doubles, 2nd Ladies Doubles, 3rd Ladies Doubles, 4th Ladies Doubles

·               Juvenile League - Girl’s Double, Boy’s Doubles, 1st Mixed, 2nd Mixed, 3rd Mixed, 4th Mixed

Note: Each team to have responsible person in charge for the entire match

 

9.             Teams turning up to play matches with less than the number of players required -  player positions must be filled from starting  position of  Number 1 and proceeding downwards and the appropriate matches not played will be forfeited

 

10.         Illegal players – any team playing these type of player will forfeit all matches played by that person and those games below

 

11.         All fixtures to be played on or before the dates shown on the fixture list and matches having been arranged may not be changed without the approval of the League Committee

 

12.         Match Sheets

                            (a)            Sheets are to be filled in before the match starts

                           (b)            Sheets to be returned to the League Secretary within 2 days of each match

 

13.         Shuttles used within in the League must be cork based and conform to the requirements of the Badminton World Federation and can either be plastic or feather as detailed below: - are as follows: -

                            (a)            Mixed League - Division 1 – feather shuttles to be used - Manufacturer is at the discretion of the Home team.    In certain conditions as agreed by the League Committee, this may revert to plastic shuttles and they will be Yonex Mavis 300

                           (b)            Mixed League – All other Divisions – plastic shuttles to be used – Yonex Mavis 300

                            (c)            2x2 Mixed League - Home team has the choice of either feather or plastic shuttles.   Feather shuttle manufacturer is at the discretion of the Home Team; plastic shuttle is Yonex Mavis 300

                           (d)            Gents League – Home team has the choice of either feather or plastic shuttles.   Feather shuttle manufacturer is at the discretion of the Home Team; plastic shuttle is Yonex Mavis 300

                            (e)            Ladies League – Home team has the choice of either feather or plastic shuttles.   Feather shuttle manufacturer is at the discretion of the Home Team; plastic shuttle is Yonex Mavis 300

                            (f)            Juvenile League – plastic shuttles to be used – Yonex Mavis 300

In certain conditions as agreed by the League Committee shuttle types may be changed

 

14.         In the event of any rule being broken or any unsportsmanlike conduct the League Committee shall have the power to penalise individual players or Clubs leading to possible suspension from the League for an indefinite period

 

15.          A Club failing to fulfill League or Cup Matches (a) may be deemed ineligible for entry into the Ballinderry league for the following season (b) may be subject to other penalties as deemed appropriate by the League Committee
